Welcome to Home Retrovation!

Some viewers may find this site aesthetically questionable; consider yourselves warned.

When we combined our belongings in our first apartment, it was as though we cleaned out the exact same estate sale. Swanky 60’s lamps, console record players, vibrant prints; every piece had its compliment.  What may be questionable to some can bring heart-swelling joy and deep unity to others. C’est la vie.

As time went on, we dreamed of building a palace worthy of our fine collection. Faux fur walls, conversation pits, wall niches, rich colors, giant windows, bold accent wallpaper, handmade bathroom tile, dark and cozy basement lounges; a post-mid-century paradise!

Dreams, combined with practical skills and moxie, lead us to a woefully neglected house on a full acre of woods in a countryfied neighborhood in the Twin Cities. Just like our childhood homes in rural MN, the woods were littered with rusty metal junk, nearby trains whistled, and wildlife abounded. We were charmed! Seeing the vast amount of work ahead of us just to make the place livable, our realtor asked if we were sure.  Our inspector told us to bulldoze. And we said, “We’ll take it!”

After two years, we’ve made huge progress in some areas and none in others. Follow all of it on our new Home Retrovation blog. We promise there will be nothing beige about it! Also, be sure to check out some harrowing before photos to get up to speed.

Thanks for visiting.
